For the second time in as many matches, Pakistan Women batters failed to get their act together as Bangladesh Women scored a three-wicket win in the second and final One-Day International at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium at Cox's Bazar on Thursday (March 6) to take the series 2-0.

Pakistan, which elected to bat first, was shot out for just 87 in 46.1 overs as Shohaly Akther, the offspinner, took 3 for 13 from eight overs. Nain Abidi, who top-scored with 28, and Sana Mir (18), the captain, were the only two batters to get to double figures. The duo’s 38-run stand for the fourth wicket was the highest partnership of the innings.

Akther was well supported by Lata Mondal, whose four-wicket haul in the previous ODI was instrumental in scripting a 43-run win. Mondal returned figures of 2 for 15 off seven overs, while Panna Gosh’s seven overs fetched her figures of 2 for 9.

Pakistan’s bowlers, however, refused to go down without a fight. With Ayasha Rahman (29), the opener, and Fargana Hoque (18) at the crease, Bangladesh was along at 50 for 1 when Pakistan quickly to reduce it to 63 for 4. Rumana Ahmed and Mondal then added 24 to bring the scores level.

However, more drama ensued as Bangladesh lost three more wickets at the same score, but managed to score the winning run with 15.1 overs to spare. Mir inflicted most of the damage, taking 4 for 26 in her 10 overs.

The teams will now face off in two Twenty20 Internationals which will serve as preparation for of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20, which gets underway on March 23.
